Goodwin is pleased to announce the recent purchase of land in Downer, ACT, with intention to develop an innovative retirement village that offers both high-quality and affordable residences.
The project is leading the way in delivering mixed tenure with affordable retirement living options for Canberra’s ageing community thanks to a partnership between Goodwin Aged Care Services and community housing provider, Community Housing Canberra (CHC).
The partnership, which we understand to be the first of its kind in Australia, will see Goodwin design, construct and operate the development, with a number of units reserved for CHC to provide low-income housing for seniors in need.
With an industry-leading reputation for quality in design and operation, Goodwin’s retirement villages continue to set the standard for retirement living and aged care services in the ACT.
Goodwin CEO Sue Levy said she is proud that Goodwin is not only able to offer a new development in Canberra’s Inner North but is also able to address the growing issue of housing affordability for seniors in the ACT.
‘Goodwin takes its role as a community leader in retirement living and aged care very seriously. As a not-for-profit community organisation, every dollar earned is reinvested into the organisation to continue serving the community’ said Ms Levy.
‘We strive for our services to be of the highest quality, while also being accessible to everyone who needs them, and this project is an excellent example of both quality and affordability.’
CHC CEO Andrew Hannan says that CHC is excited to commence this long-term partnership with Goodwin.
“CHC’s new long-term partnership with Goodwin will enable delivery on our commitment to provide affordable retirement living options for the Downer community, where residents will be in the safety and social circles of neighbours in similar stages of life. This has been years in the making and it is fantastic to now reach this key milestone, being the final stage of our broader Downer development,” said Mr Hannan.
The land has only been recently purchased by Goodwin. Community consultation and project design will commence this year.
